The Pioneer of Series Design
A graduate of the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, Pierre Guariche is one of the most prolific designers of the post-war era. A member of the Atelier de Recherche Plastique (ARP), he sought to create modern, accessible furniture perfectly suited to new ways of living. His collaboration with the manufacturer Steiner and the lighting maker Disderot left its mark on the history of French design.
The Aesthetic: Balance and Lightness
The Guariche style is defined by geometric elegance and a refusal of superfluous ornament. He excelled in working tubular metal and fibreglass, creating pieces that seem to defy gravity through their structural delicacy.
Materials: Black-lacquered steel, brushed aluminium, moulded plywood and fibreglass.
