A master art blacksmith, Raymond Subes dominated French ironwork for nearly half a century. At the head of the Borderel et Robert workshops, he brought Art Deco to its peak before following all of its later developments. His metalwork, of absolute precision, combines the strength of the material with flawless elegance.

The Aesthetic: Rigour and Material

Subes sculpted iron like a goldsmith: clean lines, geometric motifs, deep patinas. His creations, from the smallest pedestal table to the monumental gate, combine robustness with refinement.
