These two Carrara marble mortars bear witness to the art of living and the refinement of domestic arts in the 18th century. Carrara marble — quarried in the Tuscan hills since Antiquity and made famous by Michelangelo's masterpieces — is here fashioned into mortars with a slightly flared cylindrical body, of great formal sobriety.
