PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
An elegant five-arm silver-plated candelabra in the manner of Lino Sabattini, presenting the sinuous, organic silhouette and fluid forms characteristic of the Italian master's celebrated designs. The five branches, issuing from a central organic stem, are disposed with a sculptor's attention to the interplay of mass and void, solid and curve, creating an object that reads as much as sculpture as it does as a functional candle holder. The lustrous silver plating catches and reflects candlelight with exceptional beauty.
Lino Sabattini (1925–2016) was one of the most important silversmiths of the 20th century. Born in Correggio, Italy, he moved to Paris in the early 1950s and collaborated with Gio Ponti before joining the prestigious French house Christofle, where his organic, flowing designs earned him international acclaim. His famous "Como" service of 1956 set a new standard for modern silversmithing with its sensuous biomorphic forms. Sabattini later founded his own company, continuing to produce silver objects of extraordinary invention until late in his career. Works in his manner — characterised by flowing sculptural lines and refined silver-plated finishes — were widely produced in France and Italy during the 1960s and 1970s.
This five-arm candelabra, with its Sabattini-inspired design, brings to the dinner table or mantelpiece a note of mid-century modernist luxury. When lit, the play of candlelight on the silver-plated surface creates an atmosphere of intimate, theatrical splendour that no other light source can replicate.
