PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

An elegant two-tier square centre table bearing the signature of the Parisian maison Hugnet, a distinguished furniture firm whose production in the neoclassical taste exemplified the finest French ébénisterie of the mid-twentieth century.

The table is constructed in mahogany veneer with brass banding along the edges of both the upper top and the lower shelf. The four corners of the apron are fitted with decorative brass panel mounts displaying a finely worked diamond trellis pattern — a distinctive and luxurious detail. The four tapering legs, turned in the neoclassical manner, terminate in small brass cap feet.

The upper mahogany surface presents a beautifully figured veneer within the brass gallery border, and the lower shelf repeats the same refined detail. The combination of dark mahogany and warm brass is characteristic of the Directoire and Louis XVI revival aesthetic that characterised Parisian luxury furniture of the 1930s and 1940s.

In excellent original condition, bearing the maker’s signature and showing a fine even patina to the mahogany and a warm gilt to the brass elements throughout.
