PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This exceptional chandelier is constructed in worked rope in the form of an anchor, combining the natural, tactile qualities of the fibre with a strong symbolic maritime form. The anchor shape, meticulously assembled from twisted and knotted rope, embodies both the maritime poetic of Audoux Minet's design universe and the broader French post-war interest in natural materials and artisanal craftsmanship. The result is a lighting object of great character — at once sculptural, symbolic, and warmly atmospheric.
Adrien Audoux (1916–2005) and Frida Minet (1929–2021) were one of the most celebrated design partnerships in post-war French decorative arts. Working with natural fibres — rope, sisal, rattan, sea grass — they created furniture, chandeliers, and decorative objects that brought a warm, coastal, and poetic sensibility to the French interior. Their rope chandeliers became icons of the period: hand-crafted objects that transformed humble fishermen's materials into works of genuine artistic ambition. Their pieces were championed by leading galleries and collectors in France and abroad, and continue to be highly sought after by collectors of mid-century French design.
This anchor chandelier is an outstanding example of Audoux Minet's distinctive vision: a functional object elevated to the level of folk sculpture. It brings poetry, warmth, and handcraft to any interior — a beach house, a coastal retreat, a Parisian apartment embracing natural materials, or any space that values the authenticity of handmade objects. A rare and desirable find from one of France's most beloved post-war design duos.
