PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This tripartite gilt brass and glass coffee table is an emblematic creation of Maison Baguès' production in the 1970s, testifying to the house's ability to renew its forms while remaining faithful to its material signature — gilt brass, the defining material of its production since its founding. The tripartite composition — three distinct elements forming a coherent whole — is an ingenious formal solution that plays with volumes and offers a generous display surface while visually lightening the structure through the transparent glass tops.
Maison Baguès, founded in Paris in the nineteenth century, accompanied the successive evolutions of French decorative taste with constant talent, adapting its exceptional expertise in bronze and brass to the styles of each era — Second Empire, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, 1940s neoclassicism, and the design of the 1970s. In this last period, the house produced coffee tables, consoles, and gueridons whose forms opened towards a certain geometric modernity, without ever renouncing the quality of execution that underpinned its worldwide reputation.
This coffee table presents in very fine overall condition, with the warm and luminous patina of Baguès brass and the glass well preserved. It will serve as a centrepiece in an elegant drawing room — classical or mixing periods — and will appeal equally to collectors and lovers of fine furniture.
