PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This coffee table features an oblong structure with rounded ends, whose high apron is entirely openworked with a decor of lattices, chevrons and bamboo sticks assembled by rattan-pith ligatures. The upper frame, in strong bent rattan, draws the perimeter of the top, while the feet sheathed in ties extend the uprights naturally. The interior interlacing forms a graphic architecture visible by transparency.
This Chinese-style lattice decor, close to the Chinese Chippendale spirit revisited in natural materials, is characteristic of the French rattan production of the 1970s, which married exoticism and basketry know-how for holiday interiors as well as for Parisian drawing rooms.
Condition report: Good overall condition. Sound rattan and bamboo with a beautiful amber patina, ligatures in place; the glass top intended to cap the frame is not present and can easily be remade to measure. A characterful coffee table for a drawing room of bohemian spirit or a veranda.
