PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This exceptional sculptural brass coffee table, known as «Aux Mouflons», was designed and executed by the French sculptor and designer Alain Chervet around 1970. The piece belongs to a celebrated series of animal-themed furniture for which Chervet became one of the most distinctive voices of French decorative art during the 1970s. The base is formed by two confronted ibex heads in polished brass—a composition at once vigorous and refined, combining naturalistic sculptural observation with a strong decorative sensibility.

Alain Chervet worked principally in brass and bronze, drawing on the traditions of French animalier sculpture whilst giving them a bold, contemporary dimension. His furniture—chairs, tables, torchères, and consoles—is characterised by an exuberant vitality and a mastery of the lost-wax casting technique that places his work in the finest tradition of French decorative metalwork. Pieces by Chervet are today widely collected and represented in significant private collections internationally.

The «Mouflons» table, with its grand scale and sculptural presence, is among the most impressive of Chervet’s known works. The warm luminosity of the polished brass, the commanding confrontation of the two animal heads, and the generous proportions make this an exceptional piece for any interior seeking a bold statement of French sculptural design.
