PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This elegant round coffee table is a characteristic example of Maison Jansen’s mastery of interwar decorative furniture. The circular top, finished in black lacquered glass, rests within a polished brass framework whose clean geometric lines embody the restrained sophistication of the Art Déco movement at its apogee. The contrast between the deep black of the glass and the warm lustre of the brass creates a visual tension entirely typical of Jansen’s approach: luxurious yet disciplined, opulent yet modern.

Maison Jansen, founded in Paris in 1880 by the Dutch-born decorator Jean-Henri Jansen, rose to become arguably the most influential interior decoration firm of the twentieth century. With branches in Paris, London, Buenos Aires, and Cairo, the maison supplied furniture and complete interiors to royalty, heads of state, and the grandest private clients across five continents. During the 1930s and 1940s, under the direction of Stéphane Boudin, Jansen produced some of the finest furniture of the Art Déco and neo-Louis XVI periods, prized for their impeccable craftsmanship and the refinement of their finishes. Works attributed to Jansen from this period are actively sought by major collectors and regularly appear at the leading auction houses.

Presented in very good vintage condition, consistent with its age and provenance. Diam. 65.5 cm × H. 46.5 cm.
