PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This magnificent oval coffee table by Maison Jansen stands as one of the most compelling examples of French neoclassical furniture in the interwar tradition: a harmonious dialogue between the noble material of white Carrara marble and the warm brilliance of polished brass, resolved with the formal authority that distinguished the great Parisian decorating house throughout the first half of the twentieth century.

The oval marble top — a generous slab of white Carrara marble traversed by the sinuous grey veining that has made this Italian stone the supreme choice of architects and decorators for five centuries — rests upon a brass base of neoclassical vocabulary: turned legs, their profiles informed by the language of antique column-work, united by an X-form stretcher at the base. Every element speaks the house’s deep fluency in the classical tradition, transformed through the precision of their artisans into furniture for a sophisticated modern world.

Maison Jansen, established on the rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris, counted among its clientèle royalty, statesmen, and the finest private collectors of the century. Their furniture, produced in limited numbers to the highest standards of craft, is today eagerly sought by institutions and private collectors alike. A table of this quality, in this state of preservation, represents a rare opportunity.

A fine example in excellent condition. The marble top is intact and retains its original polish. The brass is in excellent condition throughout.
