PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This elegant two-tier coffee table exemplifies the refined taste for brass and glass furniture that came to define the most prestigious French interiors of the 1970s. The octagonal form — an unusually distinguished geometric choice that elevates the piece above the rectangular or square norm — is resolved with characteristic French confidence, the bevelled edge of the upper glass shelf catching light around its full perimeter and contributing a note of studied luxury.
The brass framework, with its vertical corner supports and clean horizontal members, mediates between the functional and the sculptural. This vocabulary — faceted geometry, warm gilt-toned brass, transparent glass at two levels — became the lingua franca of French grand-bourgeois decoration in the decade, appearing in the workshops of renowned makers as well as in the finest ébénisteries serving a discerning Parisian clientèle.
The double-shelf arrangement provides both a display surface and practical storage — a logic that made such tables enduringly popular for salon or living room use — while the octagonal plan ensures the piece reads with equal clarity from every angle.
In good vintage condition, the brass retaining a warm golden patina. Both glass shelves are present; the upper is bevelled.
