PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
A distinguished neoclassical coffee table of exceptional quality attributed to the Maison Ramsay, the celebrated Paris decorating house renowned for producing some of the finest neoclassical and Directoire-inspired furnishings of the 1930s and 1940s. The house is particularly associated with the revival of églomisé glass and its application to mirrors and table tops of the highest quality.
The rectangular top is fitted with an églomisé mirror of great beauty — the aged mercury glass presenting the characteristic warm patination of antique foxing, in shifting tones of gold, silver, and ochre, framed within a pierced brass gallery of scallop-arch openwork. This combination is a signature detail of the Ramsay atelier.
The table stands on four fluted brass column legs with collar rings, united by an X-shaped stretcher of rope-twist brass with a central turned brass urn finial. The legs terminate in small turned sabots. Every element of the construction demonstrates the refined metalworking standards for which the Ramsay house was celebrated.
A superb and highly collectible piece from one of the most prestigious names in French mid-century decorating, in fine condition with the églomisé mirror showing a beautiful antique patination.
