PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
A striking modernist coffee table of strong architectural character, the base formed from geometric marble elements assembled in an interlocking X-frame trestle composition. The design is characteristic of the sculptural approach to furniture adopted by French designers during the 1970s, when natural stone was increasingly deployed in bold, unornamented geometric forms.
The base consists of two trestles, each formed from flat rectangular slabs of cream-toned marble arranged in a crossing diagonal pattern, creating a powerful angular silhouette. The warm off-white tone of the stone — reminiscent of French limestone or travertine — softens the structural geometry of the design. A large rectangular plate glass top rests directly on the marble supports, allowing an unobstructed view of the sculptural base below.
The combination of natural stone and transparent glass is characteristic of the high-end French interior aesthetic of the period, bringing together raw material presence with an airy lightness. The piece retains a strong contemporary relevance in today’s design vocabulary.
In very good condition, with the marble clean and intact and the glass showing no significant damage.
