PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

A distinguished neoclassical coffee table by the celebrated Maison Jansen, the prestigious Paris-based decorating house renowned for its commissions for royal households and heads of state throughout the twentieth century. The table demonstrates the firm’s characteristic synthesis of Empire motifs with mid-century craft quality, executed entirely in polished gilt brass.

The structure rests on two arched trestle supports of rope-twist brass, each rising in an elegant curve and terminating in a central crosspiece bearing a cast rosette medallion at the intersection. The four legs splay outward in a graceful scrolled form, ending in precisely cast dolphin-head terminals — a motif drawn directly from the Directoire and Empire repertoire and a signature element of Jansen’s neoclassical production.

The rectangular top is fitted with a dark mirror glass panel, framed by a polished brass gallery moulding. The interplay between the reflective dark surface and the warm gold of the brass frame is characteristic of the luxury interior aesthetic cultivated by Jansen for its most discerning clientele.

An elegant and highly collectible piece from one of the most celebrated names in twentieth-century French decorative arts, in fine original condition with a rich patina consistent with age.
