PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

A rare and charming small console table of demi-lune form, this elegant piece is crafted in wrought iron worked with decorative motifs of stylised leaves and arrows — elements drawn directly from the neoclassical and Empire ornamental vocabulary. The iron structure, forged and worked by hand with evident mastery, supports a marble top that completes the composition with appropriate mineral grandeur. The interplay of the organic naturalness of the leaf motifs with the geometric precision of the arrows creates an ornamental dialogue of great refinement.

The wrought iron console with marble top represents one of the great achievements of French decorative metalwork — a form with roots in the 17th century that was given its definitive expression by the great ferronniers of the 18th and 19th centuries. The demi-lune form, which emerged in the neoclassical period as the ideal shape for a wall-mounted console, remained a favourite throughout the Art Deco period and into the mid-20th century. The arrow motif — a symbol of direction, intention and imperial power — was a key element of the Empire decorative vocabulary, appearing in the furniture of Percier and Fontaine and the ironwork of great Parisian monuments alike.

A piece of considerable rarity and charm, this console would make an ideal wall accent in a hallway, salon or dining room. Its small scale makes it versatile and easy to place, while the marble top provides a practical surface for flowers, a lamp or small objects. The wrought iron structure and marble top ensure it pairs naturally with stone floors, plaster walls and the classic vocabulary of the French interior tradition.
