PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
A rare and remarkable console table, this sophisticated piece by Guy Lefèvre for Maison Jansen displays the designer's characteristic mastery of luxurious materials in dynamic combination. The structure is fashioned from polished brass — warm, architectural and precise — supporting two lower shelves of smoked glass that introduce a note of dramatic translucency. The upper surface is finished in gilt worked to imitate the veined richness of marble, creating a surface of almost precious character that crowns the piece with appropriate grandeur.
Guy Lefèvre worked as one of the principal designers for Maison Jansen, the storied Parisian decorating house founded in 1880 by Dutch-born Jan-Pieter Jansen, celebrated for its work across the great residences and royal palaces of Europe and beyond. Under the distinguished direction of Stéphane Boudin and his successors, Jansen developed a house style that balanced historical grandeur with contemporary elegance — and Lefèvre's work in the 1970s brought a sharp modernist edge to this tradition. His console tables, combining brass frameworks with glass, mirror and faux-precious surfaces, represent some of the most coveted pieces of high French design from the period.
Exceptionally rare and of the highest quality, this console table commands attention in any setting. It would be magnificent against a mirrored or panelled wall in an entrance hall, acting as both a functional surface and a sculptural focal point. Its combination of smoked glass, polished brass and gilt faux-marble top allows it to bridge periods with effortless authority, working equally well with antiques and with contemporary furnishings.
