PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

An elegant rattan desk in the characteristic manner of Colette Audoux and André Minet, the celebrated French design duo who pioneered the use of rattan as a material of genuine artistic and domestic refinement in post-war France. Their work, produced in collaboration with master rattan craftsmen, elevated the material from colonial exoticism to a fully resolved modernist aesthetic.

The desk is constructed throughout in natural honey-toned rattan, with a shaped rectangular top whose softly rounded corners and scalloped edge trim are hallmarks of the Audoux-Minet atelier. The knee space is flanked by a bank of two drawers with woven cane panel fronts set within rattan frames, each drawer operating smoothly on its runners.

The sides and reverse of the piece feature open geometric lattice panels of interlaced rattan poles, providing visual lightness while maintaining structural integrity. This interplay of solid and open elements is characteristic of the duo’s refined approach to the material.

A handsome example of mid-century French rattan design at its finest, in very good original condition with an even, warm patina throughout.
