PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This neoclassical style brass side table, fitted with two superimposed églomisé mirror tops, is a creation of Maison Jansen, the legendary Parisian decoration house. Conceived around 1940 under the artistic direction of Stéphane Boudin, this elegant two-tier guéridon testifies to the house's genius for transforming a utilitarian object into an exceptional decorative piece. The double tier arrangement — an upper level for immediate use, a lower for books or decorative objects — characterises Jansen's most functionally considered creations.
The two églomisé mirror tops — that elegant aged and patinated mirror glass that Maison Jansen used with particular mastery — lend the piece its decorative singularity. The visual lightness of the reflective surfaces, contrasting with the architecturally rigorous gilded brass structure, creates a play of transparencies and reflections characteristic of the house's most sophisticated productions. The two mirrors, gently patinated by time, have acquired the soft diffuse luminosity peculiar to aged materials.
An ideal side table to accompany a classical-style sofa or armchair, this Jansen piece constitutes both an elegant service table and a collector's object of the first order. Its dual function and discreet yet assured decorative presence make it a particularly versatile piece of furniture in any carefully considered interior.
