PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This charming pair of neoclassical bouillotte tables, of French manufacture and dating from the 1930s–1940s, represents a refined interpretation of the classical guéridon form. Executed in mahogany with brass mounts and gallery, these versatile round side tables were a staple of the elegant French interior, serving equally as lamp tables, drinks stands, or occasional furniture.

Each table features a circular top encircled by a delicate brass gallery, a motif with origins in eighteenth-century French furniture making. The graceful turned legs, terminating in brass sabots, support the top with characteristic elegance. The interplay of warm mahogany grain against the gilded brightness of the brass accents gives these pieces an enduring decorative appeal that transcends period and style.

The bouillotte table takes its name from the popular French card game of the same name, around which such tables were originally grouped. By the mid-twentieth century, the form had been absorbed into the vocabulary of French luxury furnishing, produced by skilled Parisian ébénistes in the neoclassical tradition. This pair, with its well-matched timbers and consistent brass-work, is a testament to the high standard of French cabinetmaking during the interwar period.
