PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This brass fireplace tool set, adorned with pine cones and made in the style of Maison Baguès, is a fine illustration of the French neoclassical style revisited in the 1970s. Pine cones, an iconic decorative motif inherited from Antiquity and magnified by the great Parisian houses of the twentieth century such as Baguès, symbolise fertility, light and regeneration — their presence at the fireside thus takes on a particularly apposite symbolic significance.

Maison Baguès, founded in Paris in the nineteenth century and celebrated for its creations in bronze and gilded brass, made plant and animal motifs its preferred domain. Pine cones, finely cast in brass and carefully chiselled, are rendered here with remarkable naturalistic attention to detail. This ensemble follows in that tradition, with decorative elements executed according to the same exacting standards of excellence that characterised the workshops of the great house.

The complete set — shovel, poker, brush and stand — forms a coherent and elegant composition, perfectly suited to adorning a fireplace of character. It constitutes a decorative piece of the first order, testifying to a discerning taste for classical French decorative arts and the excellence of Parisian craftsmanship.
