PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Five tools in polished brass — poker, tongs, shovel, brush, and a central stand rod — are gathered in a circular disc-based stand, each surmounted by a large spherical pine cone finial of exceptional sculptural presence. The finials, formed as rounded globes covered in overlapping scales radiating from a turned base to a small crown, belong to the most distinguished vocabulary of French neoclassical ornament, in which the pine cone served as an enduring symbol of immortality, hospitality, and classical authority.

The turned brass shafts beneath the finials show the characteristic detailing of the Baguès manner: baluster turnings, polished to a high burnish, that mediate between the bold decorative finial above and the clean cylindrical shaft below. The circular base of the stand, with its flat disc form, provides visual stability while keeping the composition appropriately austere at the foot.

Maison Baguès, the celebrated Parisian house of decorative metalwork, set the standard for neoclassical brass accessories throughout the twentieth century, and the influence of their designs on French luxury craftsmanship remains pervasive. Sets in this manner — distinguished by the quality of their casting, the richness of their patina, and the amplitude of their finials — were produced for the finest residences and continue to command strong collector interest.
