PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This modernist fireplace companion set is built around a boldly conceived horseshoe-shaped base in black lacquered metal, from which a slender central upright rises to a polished brass ball finial. The three tools — poker, shovel, and tongs — hang from a simple ring bracket near the top of the upright, each fitted with a curved hook handle that echoes the open arc of the base below.
The interplay between the matte black lacquer of the ironwork and the warm gleam of the brass knob creates a refined chromatic contrast characteristic of French design interiors from the 1960s and 1970s. The horseshoe base, with its bold semicircular form, functions simultaneously as a structural element and as a strong geometric statement, anchoring the composition with visual confidence.
French designers of the post-war decades explored the formal possibilities of bent and welded metal for luxury fireplace accessories, producing sets of this type that balanced functional utility with sculptural ambition. The present example, with its minimal silhouette and well-considered proportions, represents this tradition at its most assured.
