PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This set comprises five polished brass fireplace tools — poker, shovel, tongs, brush, and stand — each crowned with a flat disc finial that echoes the horizontal emphasis characteristic of neoclassical ornament. The slender cylindrical shafts rise from a circular disc-footed stand, their uniform height and smooth finish conveying the understated elegance associated with the period.
The restrained geometry of the finials — wide, flat discs silhouetted against the tall shafts — draws from the repertoire of neoclassical design, where horizontal elements and clean profiles were favored over baroque exuberance. The polished brass retains a warm golden patina, enriched by decades of careful use, that lends depth and richness to each surface.
French craftsmen working in the neoclassical tradition during the 1960s and 1970s produced companion sets of this type for the luxury interior market, supplying private residences and hotel suites that favored classical elegance. The present set is a characteristic example of this production: well-proportioned, finely finished, and distinguished by the quality of its casting and assembly.
