Neoclassical Brass Fireplace Companion Set with Ornate Pine Cone Finials, Baguès Style

An exceptionally refined brass fireplace companion set conceived in the grand Neoclassical manner and executed in the spirit of Maison Baguès, the Parisian maison whose sumptuous fire accessories defined the highest expression of French decorative metalwork throughout the 20th century. The set comprises four tools—poker, shovel, brush, and tongs—presented on a circular disc stand, each piece united by a design vocabulary of polished brass, decorated shafts, and imposing pine cone finials of considerable sculptural presence.

The pine cone finials of this set are particularly noteworthy for their size and three-dimensional elaboration: each cone is rendered with carefully modelled overlapping scales that build to a compact, pointed apex, the entire surface catching light across its many facets. Decorative knops punctuate the shafts at intervals, adding visual rhythm and recalling the turned finals of Louis XVI furniture mounts. The circular disc base, engraved or chased, completes the ensemble with stability and elegance.

The pomme de pin was among the most versatile and enduring of Neoclassical decorative motifs, carried from the bronze mounts of the Empire period through to the decorative bronziers of the 20th century. Maison Baguès, renowned since the 19th century for its chandeliers and decorative metalwork, made the pine cone one of its signature elements in fireplace accessories and lighting, and the present set reflects that tradition with distinction.
