PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
An elegant brass fireplace companion set executed in the Neoclassical manner and inspired by the work of Maison Baguès, the celebrated Parisian bronzier whose refined fire accessories became synonymous with the highest standards of French decorative metalwork. The set comprises four tools—poker, shovel, brush, and tongs—presented on a circular disc stand, the whole united by a consistent design vocabulary of polished brass, twisted shafts, and pine cone finials.
The pine cone finial—pomme de pin in the French tradition—is one of the most enduring motifs of Neoclassical decoration, drawn from the acanthus and foliate vocabulary of antiquity and used extensively in French Empire and Louis XVI style metalwork. Here, each finial is carefully rendered in repoussé or cast brass, the overlapping scales of the cone forming a tactile, three-dimensional cap that crowns each tool with both elegance and practical grip.
The shafts of the tools are elegantly twisted, a technique that adds visual interest and structural rigidity while referencing the barley-twist columns beloved of French 18th-century furniture and metalwork. The circular stand provides a stable and stylish presentation, gathering the tools into a compact, orderly arrangement that is as aesthetically pleasing as it is functional.
A complete and well-matched set in very good condition, offering the warmth of polished brass and the refinement of Neoclassical design to any period interior or contemporary setting.
