PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This elegant floor lamp is executed in polished brass in the Neoclassical style, its slender shaft rising from a classical base to support a suitably proportioned fitting. The restrained classical vocabulary — with its turned or fluted shaft, urn-shaped finials, and crisp geometric detailing — is characteristic of the refined Neoclassical taste that persisted in French interior design throughout the 1930s and 1940s, particularly in the work of the great Parisian decorators who favoured the clarity of ancient models over the exuberance of Art Deco.
The Neoclassical tradition in French decorative arts has roots in the reforms of the Louis XVI period and the severity of the Directoire and Empire styles, enjoying a continuous revival throughout the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. In the late 1930s and 1940s, a refined classical aesthetic was cultivated by Parisian ateliers and decorators — including Maison Jansen — whose furniture and lighting frequently combined polished brass and mahogany in the Directoire and Regency traditions. Floor lamps of this type were produced to high standards for the luxury residential market and for the grand Parisian residences of the period.
Today this floor lamp brings a note of classical French elegance to any interior. Its warm brass tones harmonise with antique furniture, marble, and period textiles, and its slender vertical presence animates a corner or the space beside a sofa or armchair without imposing. A distinguished and timeless piece for the salon, library, or drawing room.
