PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The bouillotte lamp takes its name from the card game played in the 18th century, for which these low lamps were originally designed. This Louis XVI style example, made circa 1900, displays all the classic characteristics of the genre: silver-plated metal structure with central shaft, dome-shaped tray serving as receptacle, height-adjustable polychrome lacquered tole shade. The chiseled motifs on the metal — garlands, beads, neoclassical friezes — reflect the decorative refinement of the period. The adjustable height of the shade originally allowed the light intensity to be adapted as the candles burned down. A ceremonial piece ideal for a desk, console, or library in a classic French interior.
