PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This striking circular mirror captivates immediately through the vivid intensity of its frame — a wide annular band composed of crushed and granulated turquoise glass fragments, each individual piece catching the light at its own angle and collectively producing an effect of extraordinary luminosity. The vivid cerulean-turquoise of the glass, oscillating between blue and green depending on the light, gives the piece an almost mineral quality — suggestive of sea glass, aquamarine, or the surface of still water on a bright afternoon.
The mirror is constructed on a circular support onto which the crushed glass fragments are set, creating a densely textured mosaic ring that surrounds the central clear mirror plate. The individual pieces, irregular in shape but consistent in approximate size, are laid closely together — a technique that requires precision and patience and speaks to the quality of the atelier that produced this piece. A few deeper blue glass elements are visible, embedded into the ring as deliberate accents within the overall turquoise field.
At 31.5 centimetres in diameter and only 1.2 centimetres in depth, the mirror is a lightweight and versatile decorative object suited to almost any domestic setting — a bathroom wall, a dressing room, a hallway, or grouped as part of a larger wall composition. Its circular form and vivid, self-sufficient colour make it equally effective as a lone accent or as part of a collected ensemble.
The 1970s produced a remarkable body of work in crushed glass and resin techniques, particularly in France, where the tradition of artisanal decorative glasswork was strong. This example, with its intact frame and clear mirror plate, is a well-preserved and unusually vivid specimen of the genre — a piece that has only grown more interesting with the passage of time.
