PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

A charming sunburst mirror in carved and gilded wood, whose radiating rays evoke the solar glory so dear to French Baroque and classical aesthetics. The sunburst form — an heir to the iconography of the Sun King, Louis XIV — was one of the great decorative motifs of the twentieth century, popularised by the decorators of the 1950s and 1960s and the Parisian craft ateliers. This mirror, with its distinctly artisanal spirit, testifies to the persistence of that tradition in French decorative production of the 1970s, through careful gilding and wood carving.

The sunburst mirror is one of the most iconic decorative objects in the French tradition. It embodies at once monarchical prestige — evoking the great mirrors and ornaments of the royal châteaux —, the preciousness of artisanal craft, and an ability to radiate through a space by amplifying light and reflections. Its gilding lends a warmth and richness that no simple paint finish could replicate.

This gilt wood sunburst mirror will assert itself naturally on a dark wall, above a fireplace, or in an entrance hall, where its symbolic and decorative radiance will be fully showcased. Its modest size makes it an accessible piece, well suited to forming a decorative composition alongside other mirrors or wall objects. A timeless classic of French interior decoration.
