PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
A superb set of three neoclassical nesting tables in polished brass, each with a top of black lacquered glass set within a brass frame and supported on four elegantly tapering legs with classical mouldings. The tables nest together with seamless precision — the largest accommodating the two smaller beneath it — creating a compact yet richly decorative ensemble. The dramatic contrast of warm polished brass against the deep matte black of the lacquered glass tops is a quintessential expression of Jansen's chromatic refinement during the 1940s.
This set is a production of Maison Jansen, the legendary Parisian decorating firm founded in 1880 on the rue Royale. Under the celebrated direction of Stéphane Boudin (1935–1961), Jansen created interiors and furnishings of unrivalled authority for the world's most distinguished private clients — among them the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Jayne Wrightsman, and the Aga Khan — as well as landmark institutional commissions at Versailles and the White House under Jacqueline Kennedy. Nesting tables of this form and material quality, combining architectural brass structures with lacquered glass, represent one of the most characteristic and sought-after expressions of Jansen's decorative vocabulary in the interwar and wartime period.
Nesting tables of this quality and attribution offer an outstanding combination of practical function and decorative prestige. The set may be deployed in multiple configurations — nested compactly beside a sofa, or separated for use as individual occasional tables throughout a room. Their black lacquered glass tops create an elegant surface for drinks, books, or decorative objects, while the neoclassical brass frames bring architectural precision and historical depth to any setting. An object of enduring importance and beauty in the French interior tradition.
