PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This set of three nesting tables in nickel and gold-plated metal, with green Alpine marble tops, represents one of the most accomplished examples of Maison Jansen's creation in the 1940s. Founded in Paris in 1880 by Jean-Henri Jansen and brought to its creative zenith by artistic director Stéphane Boudin, Maison Jansen was renowned for its absolute mastery of noble materials and its infallible taste in their combination. This set is a perfect illustration of that mastery.
The association of nickel-plated and gold-plated metal constitutes one of the most characteristic aesthetic signatures of Maison Jansen: the silvery coolness of nickel contrasts with the warmth of the gilded metal, creating a subtle and sophisticated chromatic dialogue. The Verde Alpi marble tops, with their deep green tones and characteristic white veining, complete the composition by adding the mineral dimension proper to the finest creations of the house.
Exceptionally rare on the antiques market, these three Jansen nesting tables constitute a coherent ensemble of museum quality. They testify to the decorative genius of a house whose creations remain, after decades, at the pinnacle of the hierarchy of international collector's furniture.
