PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

The neoclassical style — with its vocabulary of fluted columns, bead-and-reel mouldings, and architectural proportion — never truly left the French decorative arts, finding continuous expression across the nineteenth century and re-emerging with fresh energy in the interwar period. This set of three brass nesting tables belongs to that tradition: the turned and fluted legs, the decorative stretcher, and the precisely crafted brass gallery framing each mirror top all draw on the Louis XVI idiom while presenting it through the lens of 1940s French craftsmanship.

Each of the three tables is graduated in size, allowing the two smaller tables to nest below the largest when not in use — a practical arrangement that became fashionable in the early twentieth century and remains popular today. The mirror tops, set within their brass frames, contribute a note of glamour and light, doubling the reflections of whatever objects are placed upon them and lending the piece a quality reminiscent of the great boudoir furniture of the 1930s and 1940s.

The quality of the brass work is high throughout: the fluted legs have a precision of turning that speaks of a specialist workshop, and the gallery edge has an even, careful finish. The patina of the brass has mellowed to a deep warm gold, which harmonises beautifully with the silvered mirror tops.

Sets of neoclassical brass nesting tables of this quality are increasingly sought after by collectors and interior designers for their combination of elegance, practicality, and period character.
