PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

A distinguished example of French Art Déco decorative ironwork, this circular guéridon unites the blacksmith’s craft with the designer’s eye in a composition of considerable elegance. The thick round top in warm white marble — its surface veined in soft cream and pale ochre — rests upon a deep cylindrical apron constructed from a continuous frieze of X-shaped crossed iron bars, each element individually hammered to create a lively, faceted surface that catches the light and avoids the monotony of a smooth, industrial finish. The lattice pattern of the apron, reminiscent of trellis-work or the grilles of Parisian balconies, is a hallmark of the Art Déco ironworker’s vocabulary.

Below the apron, a central support descends to a base of three boldly scrolled iron feet, each terminating in a tight volute that rests flat against the floor — a solution that is simultaneously decorative and practical, distributing the weight of the heavy marble top gracefully and providing a stable platform without the visual heaviness of solid legs. The interplay of the rectilinear lattice above and the curvilinear scrollwork below is a characteristic Art Déco tension between geometry and ornament, discipline and fantasy.

At 60 cm in diameter and 50 cm in height, this guéridon is ideally scaled for use as a side or end table beside a sofa or armchair, or as a freestanding accent piece in a hallway or salon. Its combination of wrought iron and marble is one of the most enduring partnerships in French decorative arts, with a long tradition extending from the Empire period through Art Déco and beyond.

In excellent condition, the iron retaining its original dark patina and the marble sound and intact. A piece of real presence and quality.
