PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
An elegant two-tier circular guéridon in the Louis XVI neoclassical manner, combining warm mahogany veneer with the refined gilt metalwork characteristic of the best French mid-century production. The form is derived directly from the late eighteenth-century French guéridon tradition, here executed with a fidelity and quality that places it among the finer examples of the type.
Each of the two circular tiers is veneered in mahogany and enclosed by a pierced brass gallery of diamond fretwork pattern, a detail taken directly from the Louis XVI repertoire. The tiers are connected and supported by three slender, tapering gilt metal legs that echo the fluted colonettes of late eighteenth-century French furniture. The proportions are harmonious and the overall silhouette refined.
The neoclassical taste for clarity of form and the discreet use of ornamental metalwork is evident in every detail. The pierced galleries demonstrate a high level of casting and finishing work, consistent with the better French furniture workshops of the 1930s and 1940s.
In fine original condition throughout, with a warm patina to the mahogany veneer and a rich gilt to the brass work.
