PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

A refined neoclassical drinks trolley in silvered brass, the elegantly proportioned rectangular frame articulated with classical mouldings and supported on four tapering legs fitted with castor wheels for smooth mobility. The silvered brass finish imparts a cooler, more luminous quality than polished gilt — a restrained and sophisticated choice that characterises the most thoughtfully conceived French decorative metalwork of the 1940s. French work, circa 1940.

This trolley is executed in the manner of Maison Jansen, the legendary Parisian decorating firm founded in 1880 on the rue Royale, whose neoclassical vocabulary — tapering legs, architectural mouldings, and restrained classical ornament — set the standard for luxury French interior furnishings throughout the first half of the twentieth century. While not directly attributed to the Jansen workshops, this piece exemplifies the exceptional quality of French ateliers working in the Jansen tradition, producing pieces of comparable refinement for the most discerning private clientele.

The drinks trolley holds a particularly convivial place in the French interior tradition, combining elegance with practicality. This silvered brass example serves equally well as a bar trolley in a drawing room, a service table in a dining room, or a mobile accent in a library or study. Its silvered finish pairs beautifully with crystal, white porcelain, and pale lacquered furniture, as well as with the deeper tones of mahogany and ebonised wood — an object of both decorative refinement and daily functional distinction.
