PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
An elegant drinks trolley in polished brass, featuring a removable upper tray and a lower shelf, mounted on four slender brass legs with castor wheels for easy mobility. The structure is refined and architectural, entirely characteristic of the high-quality Scandinavian craftsmanship of the post-war period. The removable tray serves double duty as an independent drinks service, allowing it to be lifted and carried separately from the frame.
This piece is attributed to Josef Frank (1885–1967), the Austrian-born architect and designer who became the creative soul of Svenskt Tenn, the celebrated Stockholm design house founded by Estrid Eriksson in 1924. Having fled the rise of National Socialism in his native Austria, Frank settled permanently in Sweden in 1934, where his sensibility — at once cosmopolitan, organic, and resolutely anti-dogmatic — found its fullest expression. In sharp contrast to the severity of Bauhaus modernism, Frank championed an approach rooted in comfort, eclecticism, and natural vitality, producing furniture and textiles that radiated warmth and individuality. His remarkable collaboration with Estrid Eriksson transformed Svenskt Tenn into one of the most important design houses in Scandinavia, internationally recognised and celebrated to this day.
This drinks trolley brings both functional elegance and historical distinction to any interior. Its warm brass construction pairs beautifully with mid-century and contemporary settings alike, while its compact form allows it to serve as a bar trolley in a living room, a service table in a dining room, or a sophisticated studio or bedroom companion. For the collector of Scandinavian design, a piece from the Frank and Svenskt Tenn collaboration represents a rare and highly desirable acquisition — combining the prestige of an illustrious provenance with enduring decorative appeal.
