PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This corner rattan shelving unit is an original work by Adrien Audoux and Frida Minet — the celebrated duo who became the definitive voices of natural material furniture in mid-twentieth-century France. Working from their atelier in Toulon and later Paris, Audoux (1900–1981) and Minet (1905–1991) developed a distinctive body of work in which rope, rattan, and woven fibre were treated not as humble craft materials but as the noble raw stuff of sophisticated design, capable of achieving the elegance and refinement of any luxury furniture medium.

The corner format of this étagère is a particularly thoughtful solution: by fitting into the often-underused angles of a room, it makes productive use of space while introducing the warm, textured presence of rattan where a conventional shelving unit might impose a more obtrusive visual mass. The multiple shelves, articulated in rattan, create a display surface that is at once practical and decorative, the material itself providing the visual interest.

Signed works by Audoux-Minet are among the most sought-after of all French mid-century design, and even pieces securely attributed to their production command significant collector interest. This corner shelving unit — one of the more unusual formats in their production — represents both a distinctive piece of furniture history and a highly versatile functional object, equally suited to a living room, a study, or a bedroom of character.
