PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Each table features a base in hammered wrought iron enhanced with gilding, whose uprights come alive with interlacing scrolls facing one another and ending in crooks, lending the set an undulating graphic quality of great elegance. The rectangular aged mirror tops, with delicately foxed silvering, are set into iron frames and nest perfectly one beneath the other.
This vocabulary, gilt hammered iron, lively scrolls, eglomise mirror tops, allows the set to be linked to Rene Prou, the great French decorator of the inter-war years, who knew how to bring Art Deco ironwork toward freer lines in the 1940s. The attribution remains cautious, yet the spirit is undeniably that of his productions.
Condition report: Good overall condition. Gilding with a nuanced patina of the finest effect, original aged mirrors showing the silvering spots that make their charm, likely minor surface scratches. A refined set to deploy around a sofa or to leave nested at the end of a daybed.
