PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
This serving tray by Adrien Audoux and Frida Minet is a characteristic expression of the Toulon design duo's signature material philosophy. The tray is constructed from natural rope in combination with Lucite — the clear acrylic that became, alongside natural fibre, one of the defining material pairings of Audoux-Minet's studio output. The rope, in its warm honey tone, creates the tray's surface texture, while the Lucite provides structural rigidity and a cool, modern counterpoint to the organic warmth of the fibre.
The tray's form is simple and considered: a generous rectangle with chamfered corners that give the outline a subtle, slightly irregular geometry, lifting it above the merely utilitarian. The low raised border defines the carrying surface without imposing, keeping the silhouette flat and clean — ideal for serving drinks, displaying objects, or transporting from room to room. The combination of rope and acrylic gives the piece a dual character: rustic and refined, artisan and modern, at once.
Audoux and Minet came to fame through their furniture, notably their rope and rattan chairs and their signature rope-wrapped lamps, but their accessory output — trays, bottle holders, baskets — is equally sought after today. In all these pieces, the same conviction is evident: that everyday objects deserve the same care and quality of material as major furniture, and that natural fibre has as legitimate a place in a modern interior as any other material.
Dating to around 1970 and measuring 47.5 cm wide, 37.3 cm deep and 4 cm tall, this tray offers a generous surface area well suited to its intended use. A genuine Audoux-Minet piece in excellent condition, representative of their work at its most characteristic.
