This large Plexiglas tray captivates through the optical richness of its material: the transparent resin is coloured in depth with a tortoiseshell pattern, blending warm amber, deep brown and golden reflections in a play of fluid, irregular marbling. Since each tray with this pattern is unique in its distribution, the piece carries a visual exclusivity that no reproduction can match. Synthetic tortoiseshell, or its imitation in resin and Plexiglas, enjoyed considerable appeal in the decorative arts and fashion of the 1960s and 1970s.
