PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This large Plexiglas tray captivates through the optical richness of its material: the transparent resin is coloured in depth with a tortoiseshell pattern, blending warm amber, deep brown and golden reflections in a play of fluid, irregular marbling. Since each tray with this pattern is unique in its distribution, the piece carries a visual exclusivity that no reproduction can match. Its perfectly circular form and slightly raised edge make it both a functional serving tray and a decorative object in its own right.

Synthetic tortoiseshell, or its imitation in resin and Plexiglas, enjoyed considerable appeal in the decorative arts and fashion of the 1960s and 1970s. Considered at once exotic and luxurious, it colonised fashion accessories, table objects and interior decoration elements — its appeal owing as much to its aesthetic qualities as to its ethical character: Plexiglas makes it possible to reproduce the visual warmth of genuine shell without drawing on protected animal species.

At 53 cm in diameter, this tray is generous and versatile: it can accommodate a teapot and its cups, aperitif glasses, or simply be placed as a centrepiece on a table or sideboard as a decorative object. Its 2.5 cm thickness gives it a fine bearing and considerable solidity — this is not a lightweight piece but an object of real presence.

In fine general condition, the Plexiglas retains its lustre and colours. A highly decorative piece that will bring a note of warm amber and vintage sophistication to any interior.
