Pair of Gothic Style Wrought Iron Wall Lights

This pair of wrought iron wall lights draws on the vocabulary of the Gothic style, whose forms are inspired by medieval architecture and decorative arts. Forged iron lends itself particularly well to this repertoire, allowing lines that are both robust and crisp and that stand out clearly against a wall. French work, circa 1940. The height given is without candles. Throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the taste for the Gothic Revival fuelled an abundant production of wrought iron lighting for houses, entrance halls and dining rooms, where such pieces recall the lighting of historic interiors. Offered as a pair, these wall lights lend themselves to a symmetrical arrangement on either side of a fireplace, a doorway or a mirror, bringing an architectural note to a traditional or contemporary interior.
