This pair of patinated wrought iron wall sconces brings together three materials: the dark tone of the iron, the sheen of the gilded acanthus leaves and the reflections of the crystals. French work, circa 1940. Each sconce measures 38 cm wide, 16.5 cm deep and 44.5 cm high. The acanthus leaf, a plant motif inherited from ancient architecture, is one of the most enduring ornaments of the classical decorative arts; here it adds a refined note to the iron structure.
