PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This pair of Empire style bronze wall lights follows the so-called quiver model, one of the most characteristic motifs of the Napoleonic repertoire. French work, circa 1880. Each wall light measures 19 cm wide, 11.5 cm deep and 44.5 cm high. The Empire style, which emerged in the early nineteenth century, drew on Greco-Roman antiquity for a vocabulary of martial and mythological attributes: quivers, arrows, wreaths and palmettes. Throughout the nineteenth century, French bronze makers reproduced and adapted these models, whose rigour and symmetry are particularly well suited to lighting. Offered as a pair, these wall lights lend themselves to an arrangement on either side of a fireplace, a mirror or a console table, in a classical or contemporary interior.
