PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This pair of Louis XVI style bronze wall sconces combines two key motifs of the neoclassical repertoire: the quiver and ribbons. French work, circa 1960. Each sconce measures 23.5 cm wide, 12 cm deep and 30.5 cm high. The Louis XVI style, the French neoclassicism of the late eighteenth century, favours symmetry, restraint and references to antiquity; bronze makers continued to revisit it throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, particularly for lighting. The quiver, attribute of Cupid, and the tied ribbon evoke the grace and lightness of the last decades of the eighteenth century. Offered as a pair, these sconces lend themselves to a symmetrical arrangement on either side of a bed, a mirror or a console table, in a classical or contemporary interior.
