PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This pair of Louis XVI style wall sconces is made of bronze with an off-white patina, a finish that softens the metal and recalls the painted panelling of eighteenth-century interiors. French work, circa 1940. Each sconce measures 29 cm wide, 12.5 cm deep and 30.5 cm high. The Louis XVI style, the French neoclassicism of the late eighteenth century, favours symmetry, restraint and references to antiquity; bronze makers continued to revisit it throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, particularly for lighting. The pale tone of these sconces allows them to blend into a light-filled setting or to play against pastel walls. Offered as a pair, they suit a symmetrical arrangement in a living room, a bedroom or a dining room.
