PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
A pair of bronze and wrought iron andirons, made in the 19th century. Each andiron combines a bronze section at the front, intended to be seen, with a wrought iron section that holds the logs within the hearth. This division of materials, typical of the andiron, unites the decorative quality of bronze with the heat resistance of iron.
Essential fireplace accessories, andirons raise the logs to allow air to circulate and the fire to burn well. In the 19th century they received particular decorative attention and took up the historical styles then fashionable in furniture. This pair will sit naturally in a working fireplace as well as in a purely decorative hearth.
