PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This pair of modernist andirons, combining steel and wrought iron, belongs to the French tradition of decorative ironwork whilst firmly displaying the aesthetic codes of the 1970s. The combination of these two ferrous alloys allows the creator to contrast the polished coldness of steel against the characteristic roughness of wrought iron, creating a visual and tactile tension that enriches the composition with a distinct sculptural dimension.

French wrought ironwork, of which Edgar Brandt and Raymond Subes were the great masters in the first half of the twentieth century, experienced a renaissance in the 1960s and 1970s thanks to a new generation of craftsmen wishing to combine artisanal heritage with contemporary forms. These andirons testify to this dual ambition: the ancestral techniques of the blacksmith are here placed at the service of a resolutely modernist formal vocabulary, with clean lines and assertive volumes.

Both functional and decorative objects, these andirons integrate elegantly before any fireplace, bringing a touch of authenticity and character to the living space. As witnesses to French artisanal craft of the 1970s, they represent an acquisition that is both aesthetic and patrimonial.
