PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This handsome pair of wrought iron andirons unites a traditional vocabulary of ornamental ironwork with the artisanal vigour of mid-twentieth-century French metalwork. Each andiron is built on a clear hierarchical structure: a long horizontal runner, which would have rested upon the hearth to support the logs, sweeps forward and terminates at its front extremity in a tightly coiled scrolled volute — a classically inspired foot that grounds the piece with an assured decorative flourish.

Rising from the junction of the runner is the principal upright, whose shaft is embellished at mid-height with the piece’s most distinctive element: a belt-and-buckle motif formed in cast iron. This singular ornamental device — a stylised strap with a central rectangular buckle cinching the upright — is both a decorative conceit and a structural point of visual emphasis, drawing the eye upward toward the crowning finial. The finial itself is a faceted obelisk form, pointed and precise, that terminates the composition with an architectural clarity.

The entirety of the ironwork is finished in a uniform matte black, allowing the sculptural complexity of each element to read clearly without distraction. The interplay between the flowing curves of the scroll feet, the geometric severity of the obelisk finial, and the figurative belt motif creates a playful formal tension — a synthesis of the classical and the inventive that is characteristic of French decorative ironwork at its most accomplished.

These andirons would be equally at home in a stone-flagged country house fireplace or a more formally appointed interior. Their scale — generously proportioned but not imposing — makes them a versatile and decorative acquisition for any setting.
