PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
A distinguished swivel club armchair in dark green leather, created in the Art Deco style in France circa 1980, forming part of a complete seating suite alongside a three-seat and two-seat sofa in the same design. The chair combines the full-bodied comfort and commanding presence of the classic club armchair with the practical convenience of a swivel mechanism. The deep green leather — smooth, supple, and richly toned — projects an atmosphere of library luxury and masculine refinement entirely consistent with the Art Deco revival sensibility.
The swivel club armchair was a functional evolution of the traditional fauteuil club, a piece deeply embedded in 20th-century French interior decoration. In the 1970s and 1980s, when the Art Deco style enjoyed its great revival, the club armchair was reinterpreted with new grandeur: deeper forms, heavier proportions, and richer materials such as dark leather, lacquer, and polished brass were employed to evoke the luxury of the great interwar Parisian interiors. The swivel base added a note of functional modernity to an otherwise resolutely period-inspired design.
This armchair may be acquired as part of the complete three-piece suite (see the companion sofas) or as a standalone piece. Alone, it would be equally at home beside a writing desk, in a reading corner, or as a focal point in any salon of distinction. As part of the suite, it completes an ensemble of exceptionally harmonious character, capable of furnishing a library or reception room with the full authority of the Art Deco grand style.
